INTERVIEW. . .

It's such an honor to have Marsha agree to answer a few questions today here on Bookworm for Kids! So, before this gets to wordy, let's dive right in.

Welcome, Marsha!

Starting with one of my favorite questions. . .but also one of the hardest for authors to
often times answer. . .where did you get the inspiration to write Toddler Tootsies Take
on the Day?
As a grandma with a new outlook on parenting, I realized the need for teaching healthy
habits to youngsters as early as possible to help them become successful and always be
able to do their best! This needed to be fun and something they could relate to themselves!
Learning their ABCs and numbers was hardwired in school, but I wanted to create a book
with diversity that would make multiple everyday habits fun, balanced, and even
adventuresome for toddlers. So, it was my true conviction of healthy children and a healthy
nation that inspired me to write Toddler Tootsies Take on the Day!

That sounds like a great reason to head into things and exciting too. What do you find
children like most about the book?
They love finding the hidden toe icons!    Usually, they want the book read about 3 times.
First, they like to find the icons, then they are happy to be more assured where the icons
are hidden, and they like to personally choose from the choices in all the activities offered.
You find out a little bit more about each child and what they like to do when reading this book.

I bet the icons catch their attention. Those sort of things are always a plus for my kids. . .
as they were for me when I was younger. Which plays right into the next question: What
was your favorite book as a kid?
As an early child I had an enormous imagination, so I enjoyed all the Christmas books like
Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and T’was the night before Christmas.
Later in grade school I enjoyed all the Nancy Drew Books!

Books don't write themselves and take a lot of work. How long did it take you to write the
book?
It took me longer to decide to write the book and take the writing plunge than to actually write
it. Writing Toddler Tootsies Take on the Day!  was really done part time as I still had my primary
career commitments.   I wanted to savor this experience and write it like Frank Sinatra
would say: My way.    The whole experience of writing was new to me, but I knew the subject
matter well.   The book Toddler Tootsies Take on the Day!  took on many, many different
titles, and was initially a lot longer in length.     There was a lot of ebb and flow in the
manuscript, but in looking back, I would say this little endeavor took me a year to write and
then another year for publishing.

This does sound like a labor of love. What’s your favorite lesson from the book?
My favorite lesson in Toddler Tootsies Take on the Day! occurs in the first 2 pages of the book
which speaks about waking up in the morning with a good attitude.   No matter where
you are in the world, everyone can say good morning!   This starts your day on the right
foot, setting the stage for the rest of the lessons in the book.    The sun rays represent in
12 different languages of saying good morning.  The book begins and ends with diversity
while showing how some routines that could be considered difficult instead become fun-
filled learning activities.   The interactive play of finding the good attitude icon and
repeating the foreign words sets the stage for conversation on what a good attitude means
in the toddler world!

Thanks again for stopping by, and here's wishing all the best for Toddler Tootsie!

And here she is. . .

Marsha K. Nowakowski is a loving wife, dedicated mother to three children, and a “grammie” to her grandchildren.

This is Marsha’s debut book for toddlers. She has spent forty years in the healthcare industry, primarily as a cardiac nurse. Her inspiration for writing Matt and Mattie’s Adventures developed from her own observations that patients who recovered more quickly exhibited healthy habits and good attitudes toward life. As a mother and grammie, Marsha recognized the need for books teaching healthy habits to help young ones develop into successful people who always do their best.

Matt and Mattie’s Adventures makes everyday habits fun, balanced, and adventuresome for toddlers. Marsha’s own adventures include travel, horseback riding, and reading. She also enjoys golf, baseball games, and sailing with her husband. According to Marsha, every day is an adventure!
